My favorite medium I used this year in Art 2 is colored pencil. I never use them and I learned a lot this year. Some assignments we did that helped me improve were the colored pencil forms and the colored pencil fruit/veggie. At the beginning of this unit Mrs. Rossi showed the class how to properly shade and blend colored pencils. She showed us the correct techniques on some shapes. During this assignment I learned that colored pencil looks best on colored paper, you start coloring with very light layers and add many layers to make the colors brighter, you use a range of values and colors to create the 3D illusion, and in order to blend you lightly overlap colors. This assignment introduced me to colored pencils and gave me some beginner practice. The next assignment was to draw a veggie or fruit to draw in colored pencil. I chose to draw a green pepper. This gave me more practice with how to correctly blend and highlight drawings. This two assignments gave the opportunity to learn about and sharpen my colored pencil skills. This assignment surrounding colored pencil was the George O'Keeffe inspired project. For this project I choose to draw this very colorful flower and it really shows my improvement. This drawing required a lot of blending skills to reproduce the smooth texture of the petals. All the techniques I learned were shown in this piece and you can see a huge improvement on this project compared to the veggie drawing. You can see the blending between all the colors and it very closely resembles the original photo. This colored pencil unit made me learn a lot about colored pencil and gave me many new art skills. I am very proud of my final drawing making this my favorite medium I used this year in Art 2.
